Do abrasive discs expire? Expiry date and storage

Yes. Resin-bonded cutting and grinding discs have an expiry date, printed on the disc label. The European standard EN 12413 requires it because the resin loses strength over time and with humidity: an expired disc can break during use, which is a serious risk for the operator.

How to read the expiry date

On the label of Kondor discs you will find the expiry month and year, next to the disc data (size, specification, maximum speed): the disc must be used by that date. If the date is no longer readable, do not fit the disc.

How to store them

  • In a dry place, protected from humidity, frost and large temperature changes.
  • Flat, on a rigid surface, in their original packaging.
  • Away from solvents, oils and heat sources.
  • First in, first out: use the oldest discs first.

Before fitting a disc

  • Check the expiry date.
  • Inspect it carefully: no cracks, chips or deformation. Never use a disc that has been dropped or got wet.
  • Check that the disc’s maximum speed is equal to or higher than the machine’s, and that the bore is the right size.
  • Fit the wheel guard and run the disc idle for a few seconds, pointing it away from yourself and others.

The right stock, always fresh discs

If you resell or use a lot of discs, it pays to keep stock in line with real consumption rather than large quantities that sit for a long time. We manufacture in our own plant in Italy and can schedule deliveries around your needs: let’s talk.
